Who is the St. Helena KIWanIS Club?

Director Howard Walker

A good way to learn about the Kiwanis Club of St. Helena is to look at our name.  The first word is Kiwanis, a worldwide service organization with over 500,000 members in 80 nations.  The 10,000 clubs raise over $100 million annually for local causes and contribute over 18 million hours of community service.  We are proud to be affiliated with an organization, founded in 1915, that is dedicated to serving the needs of children in our communities and throughout the world.

The second word in our name is Club.  Although members join Kiwanis to serve the community, we also enjoy the benefits of fellowship and mutual support.  Meetings are likely and entertaining, with interesting speakers.  Social events crete opportunities to build friendships.  Service projects create bonds over shared accomplishments.  We may not have secret handshakes, but we do have the sense of belonging to a special club.  Our members and visitors feel welcome and enjoy each other's company.

The last part of our name is St. Helena, an amazing community.  People choose to live and work here because it's a world class destination with small town ambiance.  What's not to like?  But it's one thing to enjoy the charm, scenery, architecture, restaurants, wineries and heritage of St. Helena.  It's another thing to feel part of it.  And nothing bonds people to their community as much as service.  Our club has been serving St. Helena since 1950 and we're still vibrant and engaged, ready to help.  We look for needs and roll up our sleeves.  We're fortunate to live and work here but we don't take good fortune for granted.  We want to give back.

Please join us.  Join the club!

Kiwanis clubs, located in 80 nations, help their communities in countless ways. Each community’s needs are different—so each Kiwanis club is different. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things happen.
